Opening Moneyline Odds: San Francisco Giants (+125) at Washington Nationals (-145) at Sportsbook.com
Strasburg (2-2, 2.45 ERA) has been a media darling since bursting onto the scene in early June. The former first-overall pick has made an immediate impact and even generated some All-Star buzz after making just four starts. He led the Nats to a 6-5 win over the Mets in his last start, allowing two runs in five innings of work. The flame-throwing righty has been a strikeout matching, racking up 53 Ks in just 36.2 innings pitched. Friday will mark his first career start against San Francisco.
As far as the lineup is concerned, Adam Dunn enjoyed quite a bit of success when these teams met earlier this year. The slugger hit .385 with a homer and two RBIs in three games. Dunn has six RBIs in his last two games, so he's definitely carrying the offense right now. Generally, though, the Nationals were brutal against San Fran, hitting just .217 in the series.
San Francisco has lost its last four games started by Cain (6-7, 2.98 ERA). The right-hander struggled toward the end of June, allowing 11 runs in just seven innings over his final two starts of the month. Cain seemed to get back on track last week, holding the Colorado Rockies to three runs through seven innings, though San Fran still lost 4-3. Cain hasn't faced the Nationals in 2010, but he has a great track record against them; he's 4-2 with a 2.67 ERA in eight career games against Washington.
The Giants hit .266 in their three-game series with Washington earlier this year. Andres Torres led the way with a .417 average, while Juan Uribe hit .333 with a home run and a pair of RBIs. Freddy Sanchez was also a standout, hitting .333 with four runs driven in.
