The San Francisco Giants square-off against their Bay Area rival Oakland Athletics tonight in the first of a three-game interleague series this weekend at Oakland Coliseum. Game time is set for 10:10 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on MLB TV.

San Francisco’s three-game winning streak was snapped last night with 3-2 loss to Arizona in extra innings as a 131 road underdog. The Giants are now 39-30 on the year and have a 1.5 game lead over Diamondbacks in the NL West. They are 19-12 at home and 20-18 on the road.

Pitching continues to be the driving force behind the World Series champions as they are ranked fourth in the NL with a team ERA of 3.25. Hitting has been a whole other story as the Giants are ranked 13th in the league with a .241 team batting average and 15th in runs scored with 243. The one bright spot since the loss of Buster Posey has been the play of Aubrey Huff, who leads the team with 35 RBI and eight home runs.

Staff ‘ace’ Tim Lincecum will get the start for San Francisco tonight. He has had trouble controlling his fastball lately resulting in a 7.66 ERA in his last four starts. Overall, he is 5-5 on the year in 14 previous starts. Lincecum has a WHIP of 1.19 and an ERA of 3.41. Lifetime against the A’s he is a perfect 5-0 with a 1.17 ERA.

Oakland has just three wins in its last 10 games, but comes into this series off of back-to-back victories over Kansas City including an 8-4 win in last night’s game as a 142 home favorite. The Athletics are six games behind Texas in the AL West with an overall record of 30-40. They are 14-24 on the road and 16-16 at home.

The A’s pitching has also been rock-solid as they lead the American League with a 3.38 team ERA. Unfortunately their offense has been even worse than the Giants. Oakland is ranked next to last in the AL in hitting with a .239 team batting average and 12th in runs scored with 254. The only real shining star of this group has been Josh Willingham, who has 41 RBI and 10 home runs.

Oakland’s Graham Godfrey will be on the mound tonight in just his second career MLB start after making his debut last week against the White Sox. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits but did not get tagged with the loss. Graham also issued two walks and struck out two in his 4.1 innings of work.

San Francisco is 23-16 as a favorite this season. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of its last nine games and in 38 of 69 games overall.

Oakland is 10-20 as an underdog. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last seven games, but is 31-33-6 overall.

Head-to-head, the Giants won the first three games this season at home with the total staying ‘under’ in the first two. Last season the series was evenly split 3-3 but San Francisco won the last three.
