The Philadelphia Phillies and the Florida Marlins kick-off a three-game set tonight at Sun Life Stadium in a clash of the first and last-place teams in the NL East. Game time is set for 6:10 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on the MLB Network.
Philadelphia dropped a 7-4 decision to Toronto on Sunday as a 176 road favorite after taking the first two games of a three-game weekend series. The Phillies have won six of their last 10 games to improve their MLB-best record to 53-32 and have a four game lead over Atlanta in the division. They are 32-14 at home and 21-18 on the road.
The series win over the Blue Jays was Philadelphia’s fourth straight since losing two of three to Seattle in mid-June. Run support has been spotty over this 12-game span with an average of 3.83 runs per game which is slightly less than its 4.06 season average. Ryan Howard continues to lead the way with a team-high 67 RBI and 17 home runs.
Vance Worley will be on the mound tonight for the Phillies in place of Roy Oswalt, who remains on the DL with a sore back. He is 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA since being added to the rotation. Worley was especially effective his last time out against Boston; giving up just one earned run on five hits in seven innings of work. He pitched three innings against the Marlins in early May and gave up two hits and one earned run.
Florida has managed to win five of its last 10 games after losing 19 of 20 during the first three weeks of June. The Marlins are buried in last place in the East with an overall record of 38-46; 14.5 games behind Philadelphia. They are 22-22 on the road, but just 16-24 at home.
During this disastrous stretch, Florida averaged just 2.85 runs per game. The Marlins are ranked 12th in the NL in hitting with a 2.43 team batting average and 14th in scoring with 321 runs. Mike Stanton and Gaby Sanchez have been responsible for the bulk of their offensive production with a combined 93 RBI and 29 home runs.
Ricky Nolasco is expected to get the start for Florida. He is 5-4 on the year with a 4.08 ERA in 17 previous starts. His last outing was one of his best of the season; holding Oakland scoreless on five hits in a complete game. He gave up one earned run on five hits in 6.1 innings of work in early May against the Phillies.
Philadelphia is 44-23 as a favorite this season. The total has gone ‘over’ in its last three games but is 37-40-8 overall this year.
Florida is 23-29 as an underdog. The total has gone ‘over’ in its last four games and is 40-38-6 overall.
Head-to-head, the Phillies have won seven of nine games this season and the last five straight. They are 2-1 in the three games played at Sun Life Stadium and the total is 4-4-1 overall.

The ‘under’ could be the best play in this game as both pitchers come in with solid form, but stick with the Phillies to squeeze out enough runs to get the win. Take Under 8 runs at 5Dimes and get reduced Juice and 5 Cent MLB Overnight Lines!!
