Game 1 projected starters - Tuesday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Kyle Kendrick (0-0, 17.47 ERA) vs. Tommy Hanson (1-1, 2.38 ERA)
Kendrick has been shelled in two starts this season, both against the Nationals. He lasted just 1.2 innings in a six-run implosion last week, though the Phillies bats bailed him out in a 14-7 win. Kendrick has a good track record against Atlanta, though, with a 4-1 record and 3.29 ERA in seven career appearances (six starts).
Hanson is coming off a four-hit, one-run performance in last Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Padres. The righty already has 14 strikeouts in just 11.1 innings this season, though he's also walked seven batters. The youngster struggled in his only two starts against Philly last season, allowing five runs in seven innings. Hanson lost both games.
Game 2 projected starters - Wednesday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Roy Halladay (3-0, 1.12 ERA) vs. Tim Hudson (1-0, 2.84 ERA)
Halladay has looked nothing short of sensational in his first three starts as a Phillie. The former Blue Jay went eight strong innings against Florida last week, allowing just a pair of runs. Halladay looks almost unstoppable against National League competition right now. He has just two career appearances against the Braves thanks to interleague play, and they were good ones: "Doc" is 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA in those games.
Hudson has looked sharp after missing most of last season. He led Atlanta to a 6-2 victory in San Diego after allowing two runs in 5.2 innings of work last Thursday. Hudson has a solid history against Philadelphia; in 15 career starts he's going 4-6 with a 3.79 ERA.
Game 3 projected starters - Thursday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Jamie Moyer (1-1, 7.50 ERA) vs. Derek Lowe (3-0, 4.67 ERA)
Moyer hasn't been good, but at least he's been consistent this year. In both starts he's allowed five earned runs in six innings of work, including last week's 5-1 loss to Florida. The veteran at least came up with seven strikeouts against the Marlins, his first seven Ks of the year. Atlanta often gives Moyer fits-in 16 career appearances against the Braves (14 starts) he's 4-9 with a bloated 5.49 ERA.
Lowe has been solid if unspectacular since his five-run debut against the Cubs this season. In last Friday's 9-5 win over the Cubs, the right-hander allowed three earned runs in 5.1 innings while striking out five. Better yet, he's been dominant in 14 career appearances against the Phillies (10 starts), racking up a 6-1 record and sparkling 2.56 ERA.
We think that the Braves can win Game 1 and Game 3 and certainly have atleast a shot in Game 2 when Phillies start Roy Halladay. Sportsbook.com has Atlanta at -115 to win the series.
