MLB Betting Info: June 15

It’s a slow day for baseball on Monday with only two games on the MLB schedule, so to give bettors some real options let’s skip ahead to Tuesday. On the Tuesday slate there are two red-hot pitchers on tap to start that will definitely catch the oddsmakers’ eye. After a quick scan of the Tuesday pitching matchups you should be able to figure out that those two hurlers are Detroit’s Justin Verlander and Seattle’s Felix Hernandez.

Verlander has his groove back after a horrible 2008 season, and he enters Tuesday with a 7-2 record and a solid 3.02 ERA. In his last 10 starts Verlander is 7-0, and the Tigers are 8-2 in those 10 games. Judging by those numbers most bettors would likely think about taking Verlander’s Tigers as a possible underdog on the road in St. Louis on Tuesday. Not so fast, though, as not only is Verlander facing a solid opponent in Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright, but his numbers on the road are nowhere near as spectacular as they have been at home in Detroit. Both of Verlander’s losses so far this season have come on the road, where he sports a 4.39 ERA (compared to an 0.82 ERA at Detroit’s Comerica Park).

If you’re looking for a road dog to ride to some cash on Tuesday, Hernandez could be your man. The Mariners visit San Diego on Tuesday, where King Felix and his 6-3 record and 3.06 ERA will face off against the light-hitting Padres. In his last four starts Hernandez has been on fire with a 2-0 record and a tiny 0.96 ERA after allowing only three runs in 28.2 innings. What makes Hernandez even more appealing for Tuesday night baseball bettors is that he gets to throw at pitcher-friendly PETCO Park, and he’s been better on the road than at home this season. Away from Seattle Hernandez is 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA, compared to 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA at Safeco. If the Mariners end up as the underdog on Tuesday’s odds try and ride Hernandez to a tidy profit.
