The Colorado Rockies take on the New York Yankees tonight in the first of a three-game interleague weekend series at Yankee Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on the MLB Network.
Colorado took two out of three from Cleveland this week to win their third series in-a-row. The Rockies are now 6-4 in their last 10 games and four games behind Arizona in the NL West. They are even across the board with an overall record of 37-37; 19-19 at home and 18-18 on the road.
Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez have combined for 92 RBI this season to help lead Colorado to an average of 4.5 runs per game, which ranks fourth in the National League in scoring. The Rockies’ lineup has been especially productive as of late with an average 5.75 runs in their last eight games.
Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to get the start for the Rockies tonight. The staff ‘ace’ earned just his second win of the season his last time out; giving up three earned runs on eight hits to Detroit before leaving in the sixth inning with a minor calf injury. Jimenez is now 2-7 on the year with a 4.68 ERA in 13 previous starts. This will be the first time in his career he has faced the Yankees.
New York is coming off a 10-2 beating at the hands of Cincinnati on Wednesday night as a 132 road underdog, but it has also won its last three series including a three-game sweep of Texas last week. The Yankees are just a half game behind Boston in the AL East with a record of 43-30. They are 20-13 on the road and 23-17 at home.
Derek Jeter went on the 15-day DL with a strained calf on June 14, but New York has not skipped a beat in his absence. The Yankees have gone 7-2 since then and have averaged close to six runs a game. Mark Teixeira leads the team with 55 RBI with Curtis Granderson right on his heels with 54. These two each have 21 home runs on the year.
A.J. Burnett will be on the mound for New York in this one. He is 7-5 this season with a 1.22 WHIP and an ERA of 4.05 in 15 previous starts. Last time out against the Cubs, he gave up four hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings to get the win. Burnett is 2-2 with a 2.40 ERA lifetime against the Rockies.
Colorado is 11-15 as an underdog this season. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of its last seven games and is 38-33-3 overall.
New York is 32-19 as a favorite. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last seven games and is dead even at 33-33-7 on the year.
MLB Betting Pick
These two teams last met in 2007 with the Rockies winning all three games at home. This time around, stick with New York to gain the early edge in this series as Jimenez’s pitching woes continue against the Bronx Bombers.
