Opening Moneyline Odds: Kris Medlen (+121) vs. Hiroki Kuroda (-131) at Sportsbook.com
The Atlanta Braves take a trip out to the West Coast to visit Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles to begin a four game set starting tonight at 10:10 P.M. (ET).
Atlanta is currently the hottest team in baseball after winning their last eight games including a three game sweep of Philadelphia heading into this game. Their recent winning streak has them atop the NL East by 2 ½ games over the Phillies with an overall record of 31-22. While they have enjoyed success at home they are just 12-16 SU on the road. As an underdog they are 3-10 ATS and are 25-23-4 against the over/under line. The Braves have won three out of the last four games SU against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Kris Medlen is scheduled to get the start tonight for the Braves. So far this season the right hander is 2-1 in four starts. Overall he has appeared in 17 games and has an ERA of 2.85. In his last start on May 29th he went six innings, giving up nine hits and three earned runs but managed to get the win over the Pirates. Normally working out of the bullpen, Medlen is filling injured starter Jair Jurrjens, who is out until later this month with a strained left hamstring.
During this winning streak Atlanta has averaged six runs per game, raising their team batting average to .257. Rookie sensation Jason Heyward has 48 hits and 38 RBI's while Troy Glaus leads the team with 50 hits and 40 RBI's. Overall the Braves now rank fourth in the NL in runs scored with 258.
Los Angeles is coming off a three game sweep of Arizona to run their overall record to 31-22, just a game back of San Diego in the NL West. They are 18-8 SU at home and are 22-12 as favorites ATS. They are 28-23-1 against the over/under line and 22-14 SU against right handed pitchers. They send a right hander of their own, Hiroki Kuroda to the mound for tonight's game. In 10 starts he has a record of 5-3 with an ERA of 3.55. In his last outing he got rocked around a bit, lasting only four innings after giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. The Dodger's bats remain the strength of the team as their .267 team average is ranked second in the NL. They rank fifth in runs scored with 251. Andre Ethier leads the team with 38 RBI's, while Matt Kemp has 31 RBI's and 60 hits in 212 at bats. Both lead the club in homeruns with 11. Atlanta comes into this game playing at a high level but their road record this season has not been all that impressive. After battling the Phillies the past three games the jet lag from the trip out West takes its toll. Take the Dodgers in tonight's game.
