Every year online sportsbooks are offering more and more wagering opportunities to people who want to bet on baseball. Let's take a look at some of those offerings.
Of course, nearly every sportsbook offers standard straight bets such as moneyline wagers.
On Tuesday at Bodog, for instance, you could have bet on the favored New York Yankees at -112, or you could have wagered on the underdog Oakland Athletics at +102.
There is also runline betting, which is a combination of a run spread and moneyline.
On Tuesday at MyBookie, the Yankees were listed at -1.5 +140 versus the A's. So, if you were to bet on the Yanks, they'd have to win by at least two runs in order for you to realize a payoff of +140.
Then there's total betting. At Sportsbook.com, if you wanted to bet on the total in the Yankees-A's game, the odds would have been 9 -103 OVER or 9 -107 UNDER. In other words, if you were to bet on the UNDER and the combined score of the game was 7, the payoff would be -107.
Most sportsbooks also have daily prop bets. For instance at Bodog, you could have bet on who would record most hits, runs and RBI in Tuesday's NY-Oakland game, Gary Sheffield or Bobby Crosby.
In addition to player props, there are team props such as who will score first in a game. In the Yanks-A's game, you could have taken the visiting Yankees to score first at -135 or the hometown A's at +105.
Future betting is another popular type of betting, especially early in the season. As it suggests, with a future bet you bet on something that is going to happen in the future, such as who is going to win the World Series.
At Sportsbook.com, you can bet on the Yankees to win the Series at 7/2 (+350). Or, if you like the A's chances, you can bet on them at 12/1 (+1200). Besides the World Series, you could also take the Yankees at 2/1 (+200) to win the American League pennant.
For the hardcore baseball bettors, there are sportsbooks like PinnacleSports that offer first-half lines. As such, you could have taken the Yankees as a pick -111 on the runline in the first half (five innings).
Or, you could have bet that the run total in the first half would go OVER 4.5 runs with a payoff of -120.
There are still more ways to bet on our national pastime. Take a look at some of our recommended sportsbooks if you're looking to bet on baseball.
