The Boston Red Sox (+200) are the big favorite to win the 2008 AL Pennant, and why not, as they currently have the 2nd best record in baseball, rank 2nd in the Al in runs scored (371), and the 4th best ERA in the AL (3.83). They have also not lost any ground recently even though sluggers David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez have both missed games due to injuries. The L.A. Angles (+380) are quietly having a great season, but nobody is talking about them. The reason is that even though the Halos currently have the 2nd best record in the AL they rank 6th in team ERA (3.98) and 11th in runs scored (292), but are still finding ways to win.
The White Sox (+600) are currently leading the AL Central and they lead the AL in team ERA (3.33). Their bats need to improve if they are going to make a push for the AL Pennant, as they only rank 7th in the AL in runs scored (319). The Rays (+650) of Tampa were shining for most of the season before the Red Sox took over 1st place in the AL East. The Rays are still 10 games over .500 and lead the Al Wild Card race, but have played barely .500 baseball for the past month. What about the Yankees? Ah, yes the Bronx Bombers, they are currently playing better and have the talent, how can you not with a payroll of a trillion bucks, but need to pitch better, as they rank 8th in team ERA in the AL (4.27). If they can buy an arm, when do they not, for the stretch run they can do some damage, if they make the playoffs. Man, what's up with the Tigers (+800), as they started the season terribly, but are now only 6 games back of the White Sox in the AL Central. They were picked by many to represent the AL in the World Series and they are beginning to look like a team that can do it. Still their pitching has been horrendous, as they rank 12th in the AL in team ERA (4.60). The Twins (+2500) and the Indians (+1200) will have to really play well in the 2nd half to catch up to the White Sox and stave off the Tigers in a tough AL Central division. The Blue Jays (+1600) and A's (+1200) have made a little noise in the 1st half but need to turn it up to make the playoffs. The A's are quietly putting together a pretty solid season, as they currently are in 2nd place in the AL Wild Card Race and have the 2nd best ERA in the AL (3.34).
The Royals, Mariners, Orioles, and Rangers are all well under .500 and are already looking forward to the 2009 season.
